Welcome to your stay

Welcome aboard The Jordaan Wheelhouse. This is a two bedroom apartment on a historic freight ship. From the wheelhouse you have a panoramic view over the wonderful canals of Amsterdam.

Explore your stay

The B&B is located in the heart of the Jordaan, at the corner of the Prinsengracht. The Jordaan is a very nice neighbourhood in the city centre close to the Anne Frank House, the famous Nine Streets and approximately a 10/15 minutes walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Close to metro, bus and trams. In the Jordaan you will find a lot of charming restaurants, boutique shops and markets.

But first let's take a look at the houseboat apartment that you may call your floating home in Amsterdam for a while. The big wheelhouse - with the original wheel still there - is without a doubt a unique and super cozy place to sit back and relax, while the buzzing city life passes by. Have a first cup of coffee and watch the swans, ducks and geese pass by. There are two tables, two chairs and a lounge sofa for ultimate relaxation. In the wheelhouse you have access to a small fridge, coffee maker, cooker and a micro-wave. Note that we don't have a kitchen, but who would seriously consider cooking when you have such an abundance of restaurants around?

In the hull of the ship we offer two charming bedrooms, each with a high-quality double bed. This makes the boat perfect for small families and couples traveling together. Each bedroom has a personal character and is shaped in a unique and charming way, with several nautical elements such as the traditional portholes.

The tastefully decorated bathroom, with shower, sink and separate toilet, is conveniently situated between the two bedrooms.

Last but not least: know that the whole boat is well insulated and has comfortable central heating. This way you are ensured to be nice and warm, even on the coldest winter nights.

Please be aware that this is a boat, so the stairs will be quite steep.

I hope to have given you the best possible impression of our houseboat apartment in the city centre of Amsterdam, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions - always glad to help!

Eliane

My name is Eliane . I am an enthusiastic and social woman who is eager to learn and always looking for a new challenge. When I was 18 years old, I went to live on this beautiful houseboat. And I started this bed and breakfast where you are now.
I have studied ‘Hotel and event management' at the TIO University in Amsterdam. The study fits exactly with the running of this bed and breakfast. And I do the study with a lot of fun. I do this bed and breakfast next to my study and I do it with pleasure. I hope that I can show you the way in Amsterdam.

    June 21, 2024

We just returned from our trip (my husband and my 2 teenage sons - age 14.5 and 13 years old) in which we stayed in Eliane's houseboat for 3 nights. We had a wonderful time on the boat.

We arrived at the houseboat around 1 pm. My parents and in-laws were staying at a hotel right across from the houseboat (very lucky and fortunate, we knew it was close to each other but didn't realize it was literally across the road), so we stored our luggage in their rooms. I did not inquire if I could drop off my bags prior to check-in.

Once checked in, we had to open up the doors for cross ventilation. The first day was cool and rainy, thus the only fan in the houseboat sufficed (note, my husband is comfortable in 65F (18C) degree weather, while I am comfortable at 72F (22C)). As the days went on, the weather became very nice and warm (low 70's to low 80's), and sleeping at night was too warm for my husband since there was no cross ventilation. Basically, if you like it cool, be prepared to sweat (we came at the end of June), come during cooler weather, or maybe another fan for each of the bedrooms would be better.

The wheelhouse room is nice, small, and cozy. The bedrooms were a decent size, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. Another guest wrote there is a lack of shelving/drawers for the main bedroom, and they are correct. We didn't mind because we do not unpack completely if we are only there for a few days. Another guest also wrote there were not enough hooks, and I would say they are right, but we made it work. We hung our towels over door handles, the top of the door, chairs; we made it work.

The shower is good - pressure is decent. Definitely enough hot water. One improvement to be done is to have the water not come out from the shower and make the floor all wet in front of the sink, which is right in front of the main bedroom door. I understand water comes out, but there was no bath mat or floor towel, and when I asked for one, Eliane quickly supplied an old towel to dry up the water, so that was definitely helpful and a fix in my opinion.

The best part of the boat is the deck that you can sit on and the location!!! We booked the houseboat because it's a different place to stay, and since A'dam is known for its canals, what better place to stay than on a houseboat. The houseboat is located on Amstel. The place is a 3-minute walk to Rembrandtplein, the view on the water is of the Amstel, so we saw TONS of canal boats, and that was fun in itself. Sat there for hours at dusk (9 pm since it was around the solstice).

We would stay again if we had more fans or during cooler weather.

Unique way to feel immersed in Amsterdam

We had a great visit on the houseboat! Travelled with our 5-year-old son, who loved having his own room under the couch. Views were incredible. Loved seeing the constant boat traffic and spending time out on the back deck. The boat is slightly rustic without a lot of extra comforts, but the beds were cozy, and we had all we needed.

    Great location

We loved the location of this boat. So central and great to watch the world go by. Great restaurants and cafe nearby and walkable to most of the main attractions. The boat itself is small and basic, but it was a unique stay and we had a great time.

Weekend on the houseboat. Good locationShow original

We spent a weekend on the houseboat. What you need to know, the stairs to the sleeping cabins are very steep and narrow. At the latest after the third person takes a shower, the tiny anteroom is also under water. A sleeping cabin is under a seat that needs to be folded up. However, there is no bracket for the flap. Wasn't repaired during I seres stay either. The houseboat could use some tidying up. Pigeon droppings on the seat. One towel per person. If you stay longer, this would be a bit little. Eliane is very friendly
